Road closures planned as £1 million highways scheme moves to next phase
A £1 million highways scheme on the A34 in Staffordshire will move to the next phase on Monday.
Staffordshire County Council’s highways teams will be resurfacing the A34 Fillybrooks/Walton Roundabout and the A520 Stafford Road near Stone.
To make sure the work can be carried out safely, overnight road closures from 8pm to 6am will be in place on Monday for five nights and again from August 8 to 15.
The scheme is part of a £30 million investment the county council is making into its roads over the next two years.
The investment aims to improve major gateways into Staffordshire and is on top of an extra £5 million to fix highways defects across the county.
Drainage, kerbing, footway and road resurfacing along the B5026 Eccleshall Road will continue until around mid-September with crews working six days a week including Saturdays.
A one-way road closure will be in place from July 24 for six weeks and overnight closures will be used to complete the carriageway resurfacing during September.
Signed diversions will be in place throughout the works for all closures.
David Williams, cabinet member for highways and transport at Staffordshire County Council said: “This is a really important scheme for the area which will help to prolong the life of the road and deliver smoother journeys for drivers.
“Good roads are important for residents, motorists and of course the economy and it is important to invest in keeping them safe and well maintained.
"This is why we recently announced an extra investment of £5 million in pothole repairs, on top of an extra £30 million investment in larger repairs and resurfacing of roads and junctions over the next two years.
“This phase does require a number of road closures to make sure the work can be done safely; however, we have scheduled these in during the school holidays when the roads are quieter to help minimise disruption.
"As ever, our crews will be doing everything they can to minimise any inconvenience and I would like to thank people in advance for their co-operation.”
