Escaped baby pelican continues tour of the Black Country
The search is continuing for a baby pelican which escaped a zoo near Wolverhampton after it was last seen in the Dudley borough.
A member of the public reported seeing the large bird in some trees next to Wall Heath Tennis Club yesterday afternoon.
The pelican was carried off by strong winds from Wild Zoological Park in Halfpenny Green, Staffordshire, on Sunday.
Staff members at the zoo are now waiting for the next sighting but say they are not worried about the bird.
Zac Hollinshead, the zoo's director, said: "That was yesterday [the bird was spotted in Wall Health].
"We have tracked it from there but not had any sightings.
"I think it has flown away into a field from the public. I have a feeling it has landed by water.
"I imagine it will show up tomorrow. We are not worried. It is a huge bird. We are just waiting for it to show up.
"As soon as it sees its trainers, it will go straight to them."
The pelican has a GPS tracker but the zoo team have not been able to pick up a signal. It has also been spotted in Wombourne and Gornal.
