Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service recruiting 16 new firefighters
A recruitment drive has been launched for 16 new full-time firefighters in Staffordshire.
Applications for the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service opened today and will close on February 24.
The new recruits would undergo an intensive training programme and then start their careers by joining crews throughout Staffordshire.
The recruitment campaign #YouCanToo will celebrate the modern day firefighter and highlight the key role they play in their community, challenging outdated stereotypes and myths.
Applications from female candidates, black and minority ethnic groups and the LGBT+ community are particularly encouraged as the service recognises these are groups of society that are currently under-represented within the organisation.
With more than 90 per cent of the role focused on education, prevention and training work, the service wants to attract applications from people with a caring and compassionate nature who really want to make a difference in their communities.
Station manager Ruth Watchorn-Rice said: “Being a modern day firefighter is a fantastic job; it’s not just about putting out fires, we do a tremendous amount of fire safety and prevention work in our local communities.
"Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service offers an interesting, exciting and rewarding career, and we want as many people as possible to come forward and help us find our next new recruits.
“Our firefighters come from many different backgrounds and our You Can Too campaign is focused on challenging the stereotype and changing people’s perception of what makes an ideal firefighter.”
