The Staffordshire Owl Experience and Rescue Centre in Haughton was hit by flooding in the recent heavy weather and four fridges and four sheds have been damaged and now need replacing.

More than £1,000 has already been donated by residents wanting to help, but another £2,000 is still needed.

Owner Andrew Campbell said it has flooded before but never to this extent.

He said: "It started about a week ago. Because of the area that we're in it's all clay so there's nowhere for the rain to go so unfortunately we took the brunt and now we need to replace four fridges and four sheds.

"We use the fridges for storing the animal food in, we have five altogether so only one is working now.

"We need to raise about £3,000 and have so far raised £1,000.

"It makes us feel that people do actually care about what we do.

"Luckily all the animals were ok, we had to relocate the meerkat enclosure as that was damaged."
