At around 10.35am Shockwave, which is a stand-up rollercoaster and reaches heights of 120ft, stopped on the lift.

But a spokeswoman for the Tamworth-based park said the ride was reopened at around 2pm.

A spokeswoman for Drayton Manor said: "At 10.35am today, Shockwave experienced a temporary stoppage on the lift and guests were evacuated.

"At no point was guest safety compromised. The ride reopened shortly after 2pm.

“We sincerely apologise to our visitors for any inconvenience caused and stress that the safety of our guests is our priority.”

Shockwave opened in 1994 and reaches speeds of 85 km/h.
