Stafford Kids Club nursery in turnaround

A nursery which was rated 'inadequate' earlier this year has turned things around, according to education watchdogs.

Stafford Kids Club was given the lowest rating possible by Ofsted inspectors and told to ensure its follows national safeguarding policy 'closely' in the future after a one day inspection in May.

According to inspectors at the time, the nursery did 'not make sure that the welfare of children is a high priority'

However, the nursery has now been given a rating of 'good' by inspectors, to the delight of management.

Ofsted inspector Lesley Bott said: "The manager and staff have made significant improvements since the last inspection.

"Staff have worked exceptionally well to build on their knowledge of safeguarding procedures.

"Recent training has made sure staff are fully aware of the procedures to follow and who to contact in the event of a concern.

"Staff are good role models, they promote consistent rules and boundaries with the children.

"Children learn and understand to share and take turns, particularly with toys and equipment.

"Staff undertake regular and thorough checks on the premises, resources and equipment to help children play safely and fully maximise their learning opportunities.

"Children feel safe and secure with the provision.

"Staff also ensure that comprehensive information is gathered from parents prior to children attending.

"This helps staff to have a good understanding about where the children are in their learning.

The nursery, which has 15 children on its roll, operates from Castlechurch Primary School in Stafford and employs six members of staff.

It was rated 'good' in every category by inspectors, covering effectiveness of leadership, quality of teaching, personal development and outcomes for children.

However, a number of possible improvements have been given in order to improve the quality of the nursery even further.

Ms Bott said: "The nursery is not yet outstanding because sometimes staff do not fully consider how to support the needs of all children during planned activities to maximise potential learning opportunities.

"Staff, occassionaly, do not give enough consideration to sharing information with other staff about their key child.

"Consequently, children are not fully supported when their key person is absent.

"To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should review the preparation of activities so staff can fully support children in their learning."

The nursery was inspected on September 12 prior to being given its new rating.

Julie Wetton, the managing director of Stafford Kids Club, said: "We are very pleased with the report and proud to have our good rating back."
