Free Radio visited Five Ways Primary School in Langholm Drive, Heath Hayes, to put the youngsters' communication skills to the test.

Pupils got the chance to use real equipment used in the radio station's studio and learn the roles of a radio presenter, newsreader and weather reporter.

The event was organised by recruitment teaching agency Aspire People.

Steven Delves, Staffordshire primary education consultant at Aspire, said: "It was great because they they got to learn the roles of all the different aspects to radio.

"Its a way of bringing new ideas and introducing new things to school. Its great for communication skills and the children learnt about what goes into making a radio show in terms of the research and teamwork involved.

"The kids loved. Apparently one of them said it was 'sick'. They really enjoyed it."

A teacher and student from the school will be chosen to record a piece to be broadcast on Free Radio.

So far, Aspire People and Free Radio have carried out six workshops and will be visiting schools in Lichfield, Burntwood and Willenhall in the near future.
