Police called on steeplejacks making repairs to town's 12th century church
A listed building and former Anglican church had to undergo repairs this week, with steeplejacks sent more than 100 feet into the eaves to fix the crumbling sandstone.
However, the sight of people abseiling down the church almost caused a police incident.
St Leonard's Church in Bridgnorth was stopped being used for regular services in 1976, but has acted as a community centre for the last 37 years.
The south side entrance to the church had to be closed earlier this year on health and safety grounds after part of the statue of St Leonard - the 4th century saint after which the church is named - and chunks of sandstone masonry fell from the church.
