Telford shopping centre evacuation over after police search finds 'nothing suspicious'

Telford Shopping Centre was evacuated on a busy afternoon after a "serious threat" was made in an anonymous call.

Telford Centre worker 'Simon' said the fire alarm went off at 2.02pm and everyone in the entire shopping centre was asked to leave.

He added: "The alarm went off and we all filed out. We have no idea why."

An emergency tannoy announcement told people to leave the centre after an anonymous call making a "serious threat".

West Mercia Police later announced: "Our searches of Telford shopping centre have been completed and nothing suspicious was found, and the Balloon Fiesta will go ahead as planned."

An elderly couple at the centre said they were unable to retrieve their car as one of the pair was disabled and the car was parked at the opposite side of the centre.
