On June 3 the Friends of the Margaret Junior School are holding an open gardens event in the Underdale Road and Cherry Orchard area of the town.

This is the first such event that the Friends have arranged. All proceeds will go towards Margaret Junior School in Uganda.

The Through the Garden Gate event will involve 13 gardens and Monkmoor Allotments and includes the island garden in the River Severn. The island was once visited by Ringo Starr who carved his initials in the trunk of one of the trees.

Entry to all the gardens is by programme and costs £3 per adult. Teas, refreshments and entertainment are available in some of the gardens.

Programmes can be purchased from Shrewsbury Abbey and The Peach Tree beforehand and from participating gardens on the day.
