The incident, on the M5 Junction One island, was reported at around 1.40pm on Saturday.

It resulted in heavy traffic as motorists were advised to seek alternative routes.

West Midlands Police confirmed traffic officers brought a car to a halt after believing it was on cloned plates.

After thorough checks, it was however revealed that the registration plate was legitimate.

A spokeswoman for the force confirmed at 2pm that the lane closures were no longer in place and officers had left the scene.
