West Bromwich office block set to become apartments
More than 30 new apartments could be created in West Bromwich if plans to convert empty offices are given the go-ahead.
HCT Homes has put forward proposals to Sandwell Council planners to transform Transport House in Victoria Street, near the town centre, into the 33 new flats, along with 25 parking spaces.
In the application, the developer said the building has been used as offices until recently and is currently vacant.
Last year, planning permission was granted for 37 apartments to be created at the site but that development did not materialise.
Agents Simply Planning said: “Transport House is near West Bromwich town centre and is within a highly sustainable location. The building was, until recently, in use as office accommodation.
“The development incorporates up to 33 cycle spaces and 25 car parking spaces.
“The level of car parking provision is wholly sufficient to serve the development and will also maximise the opportunity for sustainable transport modes to be utilised by future occupiers and to reduce car dependency.
Amenities
“It must also be said there is excellent pedestrian connectivity between the application site and the surrounding area.
“The site is extremely well located in relation to local facilities and amenities with the proposed development within a highly sustainable and accessible part of the borough.
“Given the site is not located in an industrial area or an area prone to significant noise generation, it is not considered there is a significant noise impact concern related to the proposals.
“Additionally, the change of use would not generate continuous noise.
“Overall the proposed development provides an opportunity to deliver new residential development in a town centre location which has excellent accessibility to local facilities and amenities.”
Planners are currently considering the proposals and are due to make a decision in the coming weeks.
