Members of Sandwell Council’s licensing sub committee approved an application to renew the sexual entertainment venue licence for Angels Gentlemens Club in the High Street for a year.

The establishment has been in the town since 2004, moving into the current premises around nine years ago.

Committee members heard how there were no objections to the renewal of the licence or reports of any problems with the club since it opened.

Under the terms of the renewed licence, the club will be able to operate from 10am to 5am every day.

According to its website, Angels offers the “best in adult entertainment” on its main floor, VIP themed rooms and a luxury suite for a special experience.

Angels has been closed for more than a year due to the coronavirus outbreak and licensee Kulwant Singh had requested the fee for the licence – which costs more than £3,000 be reduced.

Committee chairman Peter Allen said: “It’s been there a long time and its previous place was up by Dartmouth Square in West Bromwich. When that was developed they moved.

“(Mr Singh) was asking whether there was any opportunities for discounts from the licensing renewal fee as they closed on March 18 last year and have not yet reopened so they’ve had a whole year.

“Have they applied for the supporting grants that have been made available via the council? I don’t think we are in a position to consider any sort of reduction in that licence.”

He added the matter of a fee reduction would be referred to business rates officers to see if any support could be offered.

His colleague Councillor Susan Downing said: “I think this licensee has run the premises in West Bromwich on a sound basis and we’ve not received any problems and there are no objections or police reports.”

And Councillor Olwen Jones added: “As far as I’m aware we’ve never had any problems at all with the club in all the years it has been running there.”
