Woman seriously injured in West Bromwich house fire
An unconscious woman had to be rescued by firefireghters from a house blaze in West Bromwich.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in Eden Grove just before 11am today.
The woman was reported to be unconscious and in a serious condition. She was taken to hospital for further treatment.
Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called by the fire service at 10.54am to a fire at a property in Eden Grove, West Bromwich.
"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival crews found one patient, a woman, in a serious condition.
"She was treated on scene before being taken on blue lights and sirens to Sandwell Hospital for further treatment.”
Smethwick Fire tweeted saying: "Smethwick Fire Station and West Bromwich Fire Station have just attended a house fire in West Bromwich, one unconscious woman suffering smoke inhalation was rescued and taken to hospital."
A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "The call was at 10.52am this morning. We sent two fire engines and one brigade response vehicle, 13 firefighters in total.
"Our crews requested the assistance of the ambulance service, they found one person unconscious suffering from smoke inhalation.
"They say that some food had been left on the cooker in a first floor flat of a semi-detached property.
"They wore breathing apparatus and used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out.
"One woman, believed to be in her late 40s, was rescued by firefighters and was given oxygen therapy and then paramedics arrived."
