Firefighters at derelict factory fire in West Bromwich
Twenty firefighters have been tackling a derelict factory fire in West Bromwich this morning.
West Midlands Fire Service were at the scene of the fire at an outbuilding off Phoenix Street shortly before 8am on Wednesday morning.
Four crews, with twenty firefighters, were initially called to the scene and were using water from a nearby canal to tackle the fire.
A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said approximately 180,000 litres of water was used from the canal, but most of it was recirculated back into the canal.
No one was injured in the fire.
One crew remained at the scene at 11.30am and had continued to damp down the site.
A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We were called at 7.48am this morning to Phoenix Street, in the Greets Green area. We initially sent four appliances down to the scene, a total of 20 firefighters.
"The incident involved a derelict factory awaiting demolition.The fire was in an outbuilding, a very small part of the building was involved in the fire.
"The crews were using main jets and water from a nearby canal to tackle the fire and they requested the attendance of gas and electric companies to the incident and the power was isolated.
"They believe they have taken approximately 180,000 litres of water from the nearby canal, but most was recirculated back into the canal.
"There were no casualties in the fire.
"They were scaling it down to two fire engines at around 9am as the fire had been extinguished and they were damping down. One crew was still at the scene at 11.30am."
