A man who died after being hit by a tram in West Bromwich has still not been identified, police said today.

Officers today confirmed they are not treating the death as suspicious and are continuing to work to identify the man and inform his family.

The incident happened at Trinity Way Midland Metro station shortly before 5am on Saturday and trams did not run between West Bromwich and Birmingham for nine hours as a result.

A police cordon sealed off the tram stop throughout Saturday morning as officers examined the area and spoke to witnesses.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 5am on 2 June, officers were called to Trinity Way tram stop in West Bromwich following a report of a person being struck by a tram. Paramedics also attended.

"However, a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Officers continue working to identify the man and inform his family.

"His death is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
