M5 traffic jam after lorry crash leads to tailbacks
Motorists faced long delays after two lorries crashed on the M5 blocking a junction leading to tailbacks.
The crash happened near junction one at West Bromwich, forcing the entry slip road northbound towards the M6 to be closed.
The route is already heavily congested due to ongoing roadworks between J1 and J2 on the Oldbury Viaduct section.
Drivers were warned of traffic jams through the morning rush hour as fire crews and other emergency services attended.
Fire crews from West Bromwich station tweeted that there were no people trapped in the wreckages after the crash.
But there was no further update on injuries at this stage.
Long queues snaked back along A41 The Expressway, in West Bromwich, towards the island for A4031 All Saints Way and down to Newton Road and beyond to Albion Roundabout at Carter's Green.
Queues were also on other adjourning routes including Birmingham Road and Kendrick Way.
Motorists were warned of congestion on the M5 from junction three at Halesowen northbound towards the roadworks section.
At junction two at Oldbury queues were forming on the Birchley Island and connecting routes.
And traffic jams were also reported back towards the M6 at Great Barr southbound towards the M5 link.
Highways England urged drivers to plan alternative routes for journeys and avoid the area.
All lanes were cleared on the M5 slip road by around 12pm.
