Scholar Finn Azaz, 16, who has been handed a contract with the Albion academy, notched nine A*s and one A in his exams.

Finn, who attends King Edward's School in Birmingham, said he never stopped paying attention in class.

He said: "They're a bit better than what I was expecting and an improvement on my mocks but I put in a lot of work and revised a lot so I feel like I've got what I worked for.

"It's sort of all been building up to football at the end of it and I knew I was going to West Brom back in November.

"I can't imagine there'll be many others in the academy with the same grades but I'm sure it's not unheard of.

"I train five times a week and play one match a week on top of that. West Brom gave us some time off to give us revision time and we also had the Easter holidays which was pretty intense.

"If you pay attention to your classes over the last five years then by the time it comes to revising for GCSEs you're just refreshing everything you've already learnt."
