South Staffs Water issued an alert about a burst main on Leabrook Road, Wednesbury.
West Midlands Fire Service has joined the response teams and said it was on scene, warning people to steer clear of the area while it tried to manage the problem, with West Midlands Police diverting traffic away from the water.
Locals have shared their concerns at the rising water, noting that they had no running water with one local saying the issue knocked their internet off, causing them to 'lose' wages.
Images of the scene show emergency service staff walking through water as deep as their waist as the issue continues.
Posting on the Facebook group Wonderful Wednesbury, Dawn Archer, said: " There is a burst main in Leabrook Road which means most of Wednesbury is without water. Apparently it’s a huge burst and the road is closed as the water is so deep. Not expecting it to be repaired anytime soon but they are currently working on it. I was on hold 45 minutes. I think they are inundated with calls."
Jacqueline Perry, said: "Our water is just trickling out of taps."
Nicola Gibson, said: "It's bad, there is also a car submerged in the middle of the road, we just been past, traffic is being diverted."
Lou Richards, said: "Got no Internet and I work from home. Not going to be able to work now. Thanks for that. Lost wages due to this blunder."
Deven said: "This cost me £16 just to get water to cook and drink."
