Tributes paid as man, 77, dies after being hit by car in Wednesbury
Tributes have been paid to a 77-year-old man who died after being hit by a car in Wednesbury.
Robert Cartwright, from Wednesbury, was seriously injured following a collision in Crankhall Lane on Sunday.
He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but police have now confirmed he died on Monday.
Mr Cartwright's family have paid an emotional tribute to him, saying his death leaves a "huge void in all our lives".
The family also urged anyone who witnessed the crash to contact police with information to allow them some closure.
In a statement, the family said: "Robert, also affectionately known by close friends and family as “Bing” will be sorely missed.
“He was a special husband, father, granddad, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many people within the community and leaves a huge void in all our lives.
“We urge witnesses to come forward with any information surrounding the incident, however small they feel.
“We feel our dad deserves this and will help us all to understand, make sense of the circumstances and allow some closure of this tragic accelerated loss of such a loved man.”
Mr Cartwright was hit by a blue Ford Focus at the junction of Crankhall Lane and William Green Road at around 6.15pm on Sunday.
The driver of the blue Ford Focus remained at the scene and is helping with enquiries, a West Midlands Police spokesman said.
Officers from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are keen to hear from anyone with dash-cam footage of the crash, or who was in the Wednesbury area at the time of the incident and has not already spoken to police.
Sergeant Alan Hands said: "We believe there are a number of potential witnesses who are yet to provide an account of what they saw.
"I would urge them to help us establish what happened by coming forward."
