Inquest opens into 16-year-old moped rider killed in crash
The inquest into the death of 16-year-old moped rider in a crash in Tipton has been opened.
Lewis Williams, from Great Bridge, was confirmed dead at the scene in Princes End after he was in a crash with a car on October 12.
Paramedics were at a nursing home in High Street, Princes End, on October 12 when they heard a crash and found Lewis lying in the road outside.
After realising the severity of his injuries, the crew requested back up from two further ambulances, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic.
At the time, police said they had launched an investigation into the collision – and said the driver of the car involved was helping with their enquiries.
An inquest was formally opened at the Black Country Coroner's Court on Thursday. It was adjourned until December 17 pending the police investigation.
No cause of death was given at the hearing.
Last month, Lewis's friends and family gathered for a ride out by the Tilted Barrel pub and also released balloons at Farley Park. Cars, trucks, motorbikes and quad bikes were brought to the pub in memory of Lewis.
