Black Country twins Lilian and Doris turn 96
Beloved Black Country twins Lilian Cox and Doris Hobday have celebrated their 96th birthday.
The twins, from Tipton, who became famous as the oldest identical twins in the UK, celebrated their birthday on Monday.
Lilian and Doris became the talk of the town last year after stealing the nation's hearts on national TV – appearing on This Morning with Holly and Phil. Since then, they have been stopped in the street, asked for photos in Asda and are doing happy birthday videos on Facebook.
The duo, who live next door to each other in sheltered accommodation, have spent the majority of lockdown staying with Lilian's daughter, Vivien Clarke. They have recently moved back to their accommodation.
Lilian and Doris have even gathered quite a social media following – with more than 25,000 people liking and following their antics on the 'Lil & Doris' Facebook page and Instagram account 'Tipton Twins'.
They even appeared in the Daily Mirror earlier this week alongside one of their favourites – Jason Statham, who Lilian described as "just lovely".
But their 96th birthday celebrations were a little quieter this year, due to the coronavirus lockdown.
Lilian said: "We did nothing for the day! But its a big age. We had stacks of cards but people could not come to see us because we are still in lockdown. We had big balloons with 96 on – but Doris put her finger in it and bost it.
"We are proud to have turned 96 – and we are looking forward to turning 100, but that's up to the man upstairs!"
She added: "We are back staying in our flats now, but for the majority of lockdown we stayed with my daughter in Dudley. She treated us like royalty! We didn't do any washing up – and we haven't done any since!
"We just can't go out, every day we are always out. I don't think it will ever be the same. The war was not as frightening as this, but we are all in the same boat."
