Narrowboats are out in force

The narrowboats were out in force at the Tipton Canal and Community Festival which got started today and is running all weekend.

Narrowboats were opened up to visitors, many of which also acted as stalls with various wares on sale.

The festival runs between Malthouse Stables and Coronation Gardens, and Owen Street and Factory Locks, behind Neptune Health Park and visitors have not been deterred despite the gloomy skies overhead.

But it wasn't just all about the boats this year - there was also plenty happening back on dry land.

For the first time there was a 5k run at Victoria Park, Tipton, as part of the festival.

Around 30 runners took part in the dash around the park.

Marg Cherrington, who helped organise the run, said: "It is the first time it has run as part of the festival.

"The numbers were not bad for the first year and we will be trying to increase that next year."
