West Midlands Fire Service are continuing to investigate a fire that took place at Sims Metal on Rabone Lane, just before 2am on Sunday morning.

The blaze ripped through the recycling firm, affecting 25 tonnes of scrap metal and other materials in the open courtyard.

Now, fire investigators have said they are continuing to treat the source of the fire as "unidentified".

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "The fire is being treated as unidentified."

Three main jets, a hydraulic platform and an industrial grabber attended to help battle blaze, with the crews being sent from Handsworth, Smethwick, Ladywood and Aston fire stations.

Crews left the scene shortly before 8.15am the same day.

The fire came shortly after a devastating blaze that ripped through a scrapyard in Tipton.
