Man is shot in Smethwick, taken to hospital then arrested in connection with stabbing incident
A man who was taken to hospital after being shot in the leg in Smethwick was later arrested in connection with violent disorder which saw another man stabbed.
Police say a 21-year-old man was taken to Birmingham's City Hospital in a grey Audi at around 1am on Monday after he was shot.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The man was treated and released from hospital, but has since been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder concerning an incident on Saturday where a man suffered stab wounds.
West Midlands Police has launched an appeal for information following the shooting.
Detective Inspector Francis Nock, of the major crime team, said: "We're urgently trying to establish who's responsible for the shooting, and where exactly it took place.
"We believe it happened in the Smethwick area just before 1am on Monday, so if anyone saw anything suspicious, or heard what they thought might have been a gun being fired, I'd ask them to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
"We are exploring potential links with a stabbing on Saturday where a 23-year-old man arrived at City hospital with two stab wounds.
"Again, it's not clear when and where this happened, but it will form part of our investigation."
Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to get in touch with the force 151 of October 23.
