Man in critical condition after Smethwick hit-and-run as road sealed off
A man has been left in a critical condition after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run in Smethwick.
Officers are appealing for witnesses after a 29-year-old man was left in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a car which did not stop in Smethwick.
The man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after being hit by a vehicle on Queens Road near to the junction with Wall Close, shortly before 1am on Monday.
Sergeant Richard Moors, from the motorway policing serious collision investigation unit, said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and we would appeal for people with information to come forward.
"We would urge people who may have seen the collision to get in touch. We would also like to speak to witnesses or anyone who may have any dash cam footage to help us understand exactly what has happened."

The incident shut the junction at Thimblemill Road to Londonderry Lane, off Queens Road. There is a large police presence in the area.
The service 89 to Birmingham and the return route was disrupted.
Residents on Queens Road told of their shock at seeing police seal off the area.
One residents on Queens Road said: "We've had stabbings around here before, but never anything like this."
Another added: "I heard some shouting and what sounded like a fight, but didn't see anything else until this morning and all the police tape. This is a quiet area and I've never seen anything like this."
One man said: "I think the road's been closed since 1am and I've heard about someone getting hit by a car."
