Teenager left fighting for life in latest serious Smethwick crash

A teenager is in a critical condition after being hit by a car in Smethwick.

The 19-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a Peugeot 107 in Norman Road

He was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The collision happened at 11.30pm on Wednesday.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from West Midlands Police, said: “We are currently in the process of piecing together what happened in the run up to the collision.

“We particularly want to speak to the driver of a white van with a red and yellow square design on the bonnet who stopped at the scene to help, we believe he could be a key witness.

“We urge anyone else who may have witnessed the collision and hasn’t already spoken to us to get in touch as soon as possible."

The driver stopped at the scene and assisted with police enquires.

Wednesday's crash is the fourth serious crash in the Smethwick area in the last two months.

The day before the crash on Wednesday, police were appealing for information following a hit-and-run on Cornwall Road that left a man in critical condition.

On October 3 a car hit a man in his 60s who was travelling on a motorised wheelchair in Cape Hill.

The October crash came hours before a fatal crash involving two cars and a pedestrian on Waterloo Road, half a mile away.

A 68-year-old woman, named as Surinder Kaur Saund, died after being struck by a taxi while she was walking to her parked car.
