Trustee Andrew Bull looks forward to the Bake for the Woods event

The Bake for the Woods event will is the second annual event to take place at Warley Woods in Smethwick.

It will see dozens of cakes baked for the event and even a competition held for the best, all in aid of the Warley Woods Community Trust.

Viv Cole, trust manager, said: "We used to do a Walk for the Woods event but as time went on we started to serve a bit of cake as well and everyone really enjoyed it, so that kind of overtook it.

"We are also having a competition where people can enter in up to three categories.

"We ask people to donate cake and sell it for the Trust, as I think many forget that its run by us, so it raises awareness too that all the hard work does not happen magically.

"We will have a marque on the car park and we never know how much cake people will bring. Last year we raised about £1,000.

"It's just a really good, gentle day where people give, receive and eat lots of lovely cake."

Currently there are more than 900 members of the Warley Woods Community Trust. Many members are actively involved in the Trust as Board members, Subgroup members or as volunteers.

They aim to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical, natural and historic environment of Warley Woods.

They also aim to promote the historical, archaeological, environmental and horticultural importance of the area.

The event will take place this Saturday (JUNE 3) from 10am to 2pm.

Earlier this month, more volunteers were sought to help patrol the Black Country beauty spot at night time during the summer.

The voluntary roles would take place on summer evenings and people would be paired up together during the strolls.
