Man found dead in Rowley Regis named as Craig Rushton
A man found dead in a Black Country street has been named as Craig Rushton.
The 20-year-old was found in George Avenue, in Blackheath, just after midnight on November 18.
His inquest was opened and adjourned at Black Country Coroner’s Court on Thursday, where it was heard the cause of death was listed as a single stab wound to the neck.
The hearing was told it appeared the wound was self-inflicted and a kitchen knife was found near to his body. West Midlands Police confirmed they are not treating his death as suspicious.
Senior Black Country coroner Zafar Siddique said: “He was found on George Avenue. Police have told us he was found on the ground and there was a large pool of blood nearby.
“A kitchen knife was found next to the body. Police have suggested it appears the wound was self inflicted and they are not treating his death as suspicious.
“The cause of death is provided as a stab wound to the neck.”
The inquest was told Mr Rushton was born in Sandwell, lived in Britannia Road, Rowley Regis, and worked as a warehouse operator.
A large scale investigation was launched after the Mr Rushton’s body was found. He had been found by a member of the public opposite Blackheath Coronation Social Club.
Several neighbours said they had not heard anything to suggest there was an attack or altercation in the street.
Mr Siddique adjourned the hearing for a full inquest on January 10.
