Woman freed by firefighters and taken to hospital after crash closes main road in Oldbury

A woman had to be freed from a vehicle in Oldbury on Monday after it collided with a lamppost.

Emergency services were called to the A4123 Wolverhampton Road, near Bleakhouse Road, just before 11.45am.

The southbound carriageway was fully closed and lane two was closed northbound following the incident.

Once freed, the woman was treated for a suspected medical episode before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly before 11.45am on Monday, we responded to Wolverhampton Road, Oldbury.

"A fire engine and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle from Oldbury attended, the first arriving within four minutes of being mobilised.

"This was a collision between a car and a lamppost.

"A woman was freed from the vehicle by firefighters and is believed to have been conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by paramedics for further checks.

"Firefighters made the vehicle safe and we left the incident at 12.27pm."

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a car and a lamppost on Wolverhampton Road at 11.39am, one ambulance and a MERIT trauma doctor, with a critical care paramedic, attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman, who was treated for a suspected medical episode before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham."
