Beautiful Oldbury garden is all set for summer
It's a blooming marvellous success for one retired builder who has transformed his garden into a floral haven.
Dennis Amos, 72, only began to sow seeds in his greenhouse a few years ago, but now has around 18 different varieties of plants in 20 pots and 32 hanging baskets.
Mr Amos, from Farm Road, Oldbury, is especially proud of his begonias which are bursting with bright colours throughout the garden.
He said: "This year is the best yet. I was really excited when I saw all the colour. Begonias are my speciality.
"I am amazed with it this year as all the plants look superb. I have only started doing this since I retired and it makes the garden look incredibly beautiful and shining."
Before the grandfather-of-four retired he would only keep his lawn and borders tidy, yet now it is a picturesque paradise.
His flowers range from geraniums, trailing sweet peas and petunias, fuchsias, lobelia, marigolds and pansies - all in full orange, red, pink and yellow bloom.
The garden is 100ft long and 30ft wide.
He continued: "I do it for the pleasure of my family and the grandchildren because I have a swing and slide there too.
"It is lovely to sit in the garden and hear the birds sing - its things like this that make the place special and you miss them when you're not there.
"I have people who come and knock my door and ask to have a look around, but I've never took part in any competitions.
"When I first moved here 24 years ago, we were surrounded by trees, but its depressing to see so much nature being lost and trees cut down now.
"That's why I want to continue to do my bit.
"The lady who lives near me is in her 90s and says that she loves waking up in the morning to look out the window and see my garden. It makes it all worth it when you get comments like that."
