Inquest opens into death of Great Barr stabbing victim Jack Barry, 19
An inquest has been opened into the death of a 19-year-old man who was stabbed in Great Barr.
The hearing into the death of Jack Barry was opened and adjourned at Black Country Coroners Court on Friday morning.
The court heard that Mr Barry, of Newton Road, Great Barr, was involved in a stabbing in West Road, also in Great Barr, at around 9.45pm on March 7 this year, and was confirmed dead at the scene.
Area coroner Joanna Lees said: "The death of Jack Barry was reported to the coroners court by West Midlands Police and his family confirmed his details.
"He died on March 7, 2021, and his place of death was West Road in Great Barr. It was reported he had been involved in a stabbing on the evening of March 7. He was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene.
"A post-mortem examination concluded a medical cause of death as 1a) stab wound to the chest.
"He was formally identified by family members on March 10."
Cameron Cheshire, 18, of West Road, in Great Barr, has been charged with the murder of Mr Barry. He will enter a plea at a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court on April 16, with a preliminary trial date set for November 8.
Mrs Lees adjourned the inquest to allow criminal proceedings to conclude and offered her condolences to Mr Barry's family.
