Cyclist taken to hospital after being found unresponsive in Great Barr park

An air ambulance landed in a Great Barr park after a cyclist was involved in a crash.

Emergency services were called to Red House Park, near the Scott Arms junction, on Sunday afternoon after a man in his 40s was found lying on a pavement with his bike on top of him.

The Midlands Air Ambulance, with a doctor on board, landed close to football pitches on Red House Park to help the patient, who was unresponsive, at about 2.50pm.

The cyclist suffered a non life-threatening head injury and was was taken to Sandwell Hospital.

West Midlands Police are investigating the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police are investigating after a man came off his push bike at the junction between Birmingham Road and Scott Road yesterday (Sunday 17 March).

"The man was found in the road, with a head injury at round 2.50pm.

"He was taken to hospital for treatment to the injury that was not life-changing or life-threatening.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances that led to the man coming off his bike."
