The Great Barr Muslim Foundation has purchased the former Perry Barr police station on Walsall Road, at a recent auction run by SDL Auctions Bigwood.
The site went under the hammer last week and sold for £820,000, the highest price among the 126 lots which went up for sale.
The group has said it was a 'one off opportunity' and have now put down a 10 per cent deposit and are asking for donations to help get up to the total.
A Facebook post from the group reads: "Great Barr Muslim Foundation have purchased the police station on the 394 Walsall Road for £820,000.
"This was a one off opportunity for us to acquire a building of this type for a muslim community centre.
"We have put down a 10 per cent deposit and need to provide the complete sum within 28 days."
