Plans to turn a Labour club into a bar and grill have been given the green light by council chiefs.

Cradley Heath Labour Club closed suddenly in 2015 after more than 90 years.

It had stood empty ever since – but proposals to revamp the club had now got the go-ahead.

The club, in Graingers Lane, will be turned into an eating and drinking venue.

Ward councillor Julie Webb said: "I'm glad the plans have been approved and will have some life pumped back into it – rather than go derelict and open to arsonists.

"I really welcome these plans and they were approved with delegated powers so there was no issue at all with the application.

"It's another plus for Cradley Heath and good to see some money coming into the town.

"People want to come and live here now."

The club opened in 1922. Membership reached its peak in the 1960s though the venue remained popular into the 1990s.
