The facility at Sandwell Hospital, in West Bromwich, replaces a walk-in centre at Parsonage Street, just a few yards away.

It offers GP-led urgent, but not emergency care, for ailments such as suspected broken bones, abdominal pain and minor illnesses.

Patients from all areas are able to attend, however if they are not registered with a GP they will be asked to sign up.

Patients attending the new centre will be directed to the A&E department at Sandwell Hospital.

GP and clinical chair for the new centre, Dr Nicki Gill, said: “This is a much-needed facility within the area and means that those requiring urgent same day care can see a GP.

“As we know, treatment for certain conditions, illnesses or injuries do not always require hospital care or admission and this centre gives patients that option.

“By offering GP-led care to the community we are also reducing pressure on our A&E departments.”

The centre will be open for urgent care seven days a week, from 9am to 9pm. Appointments can be made by calling NHS 111 or by walking in.
