Founders of the Tividale Trotters club, Paul Green and his wife Nichola are currently doing the 496 challenge over January to raise funds for Severn Hospice

Paul and Nichola Green, founding members of Tividale Trotters, are taking on the 496 challenge, so one mile on January 1, 10 miles on January 10, a total of 496 miles in the month.

Mr Green, a 54-year-old landscape gardener, is taking on the challenge to raise funds for Severn Hospice, which looked after his father Terence Green two years ago.

Mr Green, from Tividale, said: "It's getting a bit difficult towards the end of the month. It's one of those things, you get your mind and your body set ready to do it, then it almost becomes part of your daily routine.

"I don't think your body ever gets used to it but it is different.

"I booked the last week off work so I can run in the day and do different routes.

"It doesn't seem a great deal at the start when its three or four miles but now it's in the 20s.

"Between myself and my wife we've done that much for charity over the years, so I set the bar at £500. We're doing ok at the moment.

"I will drop off the miles in February but you have to do something after you can't just stop.

"It's a personal challenge for me as I like doing these crazy things, but I can't imagine doing it and not raising money.

"Charities are struggling at the moment, we need to help them now more than ever."
