Six council tax reminders sent out to Sandwell councillors over two years
Council tax reminders were sent out on six occasions to councillors in a Black Country borough over a two-year-period, it can been revealed.
Figures obtained through a Freedom of Information by the Express & Star showed three tax reminders were sent out in 2018 and 2019.
Sandwell Council revealed three reminders were sent out to each councillor which had missed a council tax reminder.
It means two councillors had failed to pay their council tax on time over the two-year period.
Local authorities only send out a maximum of two council tax reminders per financial year. This is followed up by a final notice if payments are still late. After that, court action can be taken such as the use of bailiffs.
The figures were revealed on February 18 - a month before coronavirus was declared a pandemic [March 11] and the UK was put on lockdown [March 23].
Sandwell Council leader Yvonne Davies said: "Some people don't pay by direct debit which is what I would absolutely recommend for everybody. Some people change their bank accounts and set-up direct debits.
"There are different reasons why people need reminding. As long as council tax gets paid, that is the most important thing. We all lead complicated lives now."
