St Michael's Church of England High School held their take on hit ITV show, I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, called, I'm A Teacher Get Me Out Of Here, which has raised more than £4,000.

The week of fundraising included a non uniform day, Aussie bake sale, themed lessons and a trampolining event - but the highlight was the bushtucker trials.

Students and staff had been donating cash to vote for who they would like to face the trials.

The cause is close to the hearts of everyone in the school community, as teacher Emma Burchell is from Australia and her friends and family have been affected by the devastation.

Mrs Burchell said: "I have been so blown away by the incredible generosity of our community. The students have shown passion and empathy for global issues, and haven't shied away from playing their part making a difference for Australia.

"I am proud to be a part of a school that tackles global issues and encourages students to action care and compassion.

"Many of our students come from difficult backgrounds and have their own struggles so to raise near 10,000 Australian dollars in just a couple of weeks for a suffering country on the other side of the world is incredibly humbling."

The school's current fundraising total stands at £4,641 which is to be shared between the South Australia Country Fire Service and RSPCA.

Next week Mrs Burchell will be travelling to Australia to deliver the cash raised directly to those who need it.
