The work at the Oldbury viaduct on the M5 has been edging towards completion over recent months, with a contraflow having been removed.
Restrictions still remain in place but Highways England said it hoped traffic would be flowing normally by the autumn, though a firm date has not been given.
Some overnight lane closures are expected afterwards for the testing of new overhead signs and equipment.
The work has been ongoing between Junctions 1 and 2 since 2017 and caused huge disruption.
Two lanes of traffic have been running in either direction at 30mph, though the speed has now been increased to 40mph.
The £100 million project is the most expensive and one of the largest ever carried out on UK motorways.
