A family who made their neighbours’ lives hell have been thrown out of their home by police and Sandwell Council.

The eviction came after a court heard how local people have suffered threats and intimidation from the tenants in Glastonbury Road, West Bromwich

Birmingham County Court issued an order to repossess the house after hearing family members caused noise nuisance and threatened and intimidated people in the neighbourhood.

Sandwell Council and West Midlands Police, supported by local residents, took the case earlier this year and the family were evicted on May 1.

The local authority has said it tried to avoid the ‘last resort’ of eviction but all other attempts to deal with the problems had failed and it had a duty to protect people from anti-social behaviour.

'Big relief'

Alan Caddick, Sandwell Council’s director of housing and communities, said: “We took this action to protect residents and help reduce anti-social behaviour in the neighbourhood.

“This was a last resort, as we had worked with the tenant and their family who were given numerous warnings, but problems continued.

“This eviction is a big relief to local residents. Following this eviction, we will now be letting the property to a new tenant.

"This case demonstrates that tenants and their families face losing their council home if they breach their tenancy conditions.”

In 2014, the council and police removed eight people from four rented addresses on the Moat Farm Estate, Tipton, where police said residents lived in fear of a criminal family and members of a local criminal gang.
