Normal services were only running from Wednesbury Parkway towards Birmingham this morning after the failure at Priestfield in Wolverhampton.
Emergency repairs then saw the Metro only operating from Black Lake in West Bromwich.
Passengers have already been facing major disruption due to work to replace the tracks at the start of the line in Wolverhampton city centre, meaning both the St George's and The Royal stops have been shut since June.
Since the beginning of the overhead line trouble yesterday, passengers have been forced to get on either shuttle tram services to Wednesbury and Black Lake, or take buses and London Midland trains which are accepting tickets.
