Sandwell Council looking to appoint top roles - one earning £100k pay packet

A council is looking to appoint two new bosses - which could see them earn more than £100,000.

Sandwell Council are interviewing candidates for a new monitoring officer and director of housing and communities.

The monitoring officer role was advertised by Sandwell Council and bosses will be interviewing the final four candidates on Tuesday (30).

The successful candidate will be paid between £88,953 and £103,731, which will include travel allowance.

Meanwhile, the council will hear form candidates for the director role on Thursday (01).

A report by the local authority said the purpose of the officer will be 'to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the council's democratic processes.'

Sandwell Council leader councillor Steve Eling, who will chair a panel of councillors to interview the candidates, said the council was looking to make a permanent appointment for the monitoring officer. .

The role has been previously covered on a part time basis by an agency, said councillor Eling.

"By law we need a monitoring officer and we need to fill the role," he said.

"We advertised for the role and interviewing the final four candidates."
