Oldbury chip shop hit by blaze as staff and residents escape
Firefighters have tackled a blaze at a fish and chip shop in Oldbury.
The fire broke out in the basement of Angelo's on Birmingham Road at around 10.30am today.
Fire crews managed to stop the flames from spreading into the main chip shop area.
The blaze is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
Workers in the takeaway and people living above managed to get out before firefighters arrived.
Watch commander Eve Greenhouse, from Oldbury Fire Station, said: "Unfortunately, it was an accidental electrical fire in the basement.
"Luckily, we took swift action to stop the fire from spreading.
"It potentially could have been worse but we managed to keep it contained in the basement.
"There was a large amount of smoke affecting the chip shop and residential area above."
