Firefighters raced to tackle vehicle fire near Oswestry

The brave firefighters were tasked with tackling a vehicle fire earlier today, Tuesday, November 26.

The dangerous incident happened on the A5, near Oswestry, at around 3.40pm as a car was on fire on the A5, which crews extinguished using one hose reel jet working with foam. 

One lane closed due to hazards including smoke across the carriageway.

A statement from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: "At 3:41 on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Car Fire in Oswestry.

"Two fire appliances were mobilised from Ellesmere and Oswestry. Crews used the following equipment to tackle the fire: Hosereel jet. Also at the scene of the incident were: The Police.

"Car on fire on the A5 which crews having extinguished using one hose reel jet working with foam. One lane closed due to hazards including smoke across the carriageway."
