Matthew Hutchins had his head shaved on Sunday at his family home in Wordsley for The Aplastic Anaemia Trust after his brother Samuel was diagnosed with the condition last year.

Matthew, 29, raised £255 for the charity after following in their mother, Anne Groucutt's footsteps who had her head shaved last year for charity.

Sam, 25, was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia – a rare condition in which the bone marrow stops making new blood cells, after a midwife told him he looked unwell at when he attended a routine antenatal appointment with his partner Paris Turner.

Matthew, who now lives in Handsworth, said: "The head shave went brilliantly, I've raised £255 for The Aplastic Anaemia Trust.

"I was both nervous and excited beforehand."

Matthew was a donor for a stem cell transplant for his brother earlier this month, after a previous bone marrow transplant didn't work.

He added: "The stem cell transplant went brilliantly, but it was painful.

"His blood count is starting to grow now, the hospital is very pleased.

"He had to have radiotherapy and chemotherapy before it. Now we have to wait and see what happens."
