Trains forced to go slow as lorry gets stuck under Black Country railway bridge
Firefighters came to the rescue when a 30-ton lorry got stuck under a railway bridge in the Black Country.
The lorry became wedged under the bridge in Brook Road, Oldswinford, just after 6.30pm on Tuesday evening.
Nobody was hurt but the road was closed and trains going in and out of nearby Stourbridge Junction station had to travel at a reduced speed as a result.
Fire crews used air suspension to free the PGS Global Logistics lorry, which was stuck under one of two railway bridges in close succession next to the old Seven Stars pub on Brook Road.
The lorry had made it under the first bridge but got stuck under the second as it headed towards the mini-roundabout.
Both bridges and the footbridge next to them have signs warning vehicles taller than 15ft 9in (4.8m) not to travel under them.
A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "At 6.38pm on Tuesday 22 December we responded to a collision between a 30-ton articulated lorry and a bridge on Brook Road.
"A fire engine from Brierley Hill Fire Station, a brigade response vehicle from Stourbridge Fire Station and eight firefighters attended the scene with the first crew arriving in three minutes.
"The articulated lorry had become stuck under the bridge, thankfully no one was trapped or injured and we requested the assistance of the rail incident officer from the rail network.
"Firefighters worked to free the lorry, using air suspension and made make the area safe before leaving the scene in the hands of the police and rail network colleagues."
