St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, in Lea Vale Road, issued a letter to parents on November 4 announcing the school would be closed for two weeks.

It comes after a "member of the school community" tested positive for Covid-19.

The school said that a small number of children who had been in contact with the positive case were self-isolating for 14 days – but due to the number of other members of staff, including senior leaders, who had been in contact with them, the school was unable to stay open.

The school is now due to reopen on Tuesday, November 17.

More Covid-19 coverage:

In a letter, the acting headteacher, Mr A Carry, said: "We have been made aware of a member of our school community who has tested positive for Covid-19.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (Covid-19) will be a mild illness.

"The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

"Unfortunately, due to the contact with a number of other members of staff, including senior leaders, the school is unable to remain open. The school will reopen to all children on Tuesday, November 17. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

"Remote learning will be provided for all children through the school website. This can be accessed via the landing page through the relevant year group within the ‘children’s area’ section. An additional letter with these arrangements will be sent on Thursday. In the meantime, if you require any further support with home learning then please contact the school via: info@st-jo-st.dudley.sch.uk."
