Stourbridge mother taking on London Marathon
A Stourbridge mother will be tackling her first marathon later this year.
Lisa Avery, aged 50, from Wordsley, works as an accounts supervisor at the Will Hire plant and machinery hire centre at Lye in Stourbridge and is a member of Dudley Kingswinford Running Club.
The club introduced Lisa to running through its beginners club a couple of years ago and Lisa has gradually progressed from there, but is still apprehensive about competing in such a major event.
Lisa said: “I will be joining over 40,000 other runners in London on 26th April and I hope to personally raise over £1,500 for Action Heart, the charity based at Russell’s Hall Hospital in Dudley, so I am taking things seriously.
“This is such a huge event and I have heard so many fantastic stories about the atmosphere and support of spectators and fellow runners on the day, so I am increasing my training steadily each week in careful preparation for this really exciting opportunity.
“I am ‘forcing’ my husband Graham to join me in the forthcoming Liverpool Half Marathon as part of my training schedule and the support and encouragement from him, my sons, family, friends and the people here at work has been simply amazing.
“I am really excited to have gained an entry place at all, so will do my very best to merit it… but I’m also just a little bit nervous too!”
Will Hire director, Will Gough, added: “Lisa has been with the company since we started 15 years ago so is a stalwart member of the team so we are all very proud of her effort and commitment to what is a fantastic sporting occasion and just know she will do us proud.”
