The Health and Safety Executive has launched an investigation into the incident.
His friend Josh Hazlett, 21 from Dudley, is calling on Aston Villa fans to remember Mitchell during their next home game.
Josh wants fans to clap for Mitchell in the 26th minute when Villa play West Ham on Monday.
He tweeted: “Can everyone please help me get something done on behalf of Aston Villa at their next home game?
“Sadly my friend lost his life last night in a critical work injury and sadly got pronounced dead at the scene! He was a massive massive villa fan.
“So on the 26th minute can we all have a round of applause for my mate Mitchell Pountney.
“He wasn’t just a mate who I played football with, he was a person who I classed as a brother!
“Unfortunately I can’t make the next home game due to work, but if someone can start the applause off for my mate Mitchell, and record the video that would be most appreciated and will be sent over to his other half."
Emergency services were called to the business premises, on Station Road, just after 11am on Monday, where it was found Mitchell had suffered serious injuries.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "On arrival, crews discovered one patient a man, who had suffered multiple serious injuries.
"Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
A HSE spokesman added: “HSE has made enquiries and our investigation is ongoing.”
